"Inspired directly from the Victorian era, Florere Memoriae is a game that creates a journey of nostalgia and love using the Victorian flower language in a forest that's beautifully painted before your eyes in a style honoring the era's romantic style. With each discovery made, the forest reveals more and more of its colors, each memory relieved making new flowers bloom in the world."

Project Overview

Florere Memoriae was a project made during my Master's course at Abertay University. It was created by six students over the course of about ten weeks. Our goal was to meet the open ended prompt: Relaxing Game. I was the lone artist on the team, and as such I was responsible for creating all textures and models, botanical renders, shaders, lighting, and implementing the painterly post-processing effect. |

Botanical renders
One of the main inspirations for our game was vintage botany journals. These journals contain paintings of foliage and frequently include accompanying scientific, foraging, or poetic descriptions. Our development team took a trip to a local historical archive to view one of these books in person.
The designers wanted the images in the journal to have the same painterly appearance as they have in game. I fudged this effect by taking renders in Blender and then applying a filter to the resulting image.
Some of the foliage required small model alterations and staging for rendering, while others required entirely new models to achieve the botany journal appearance.
